WARNING: Spoilers about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

After a wait of almost two years, Sony Pictures Animation has finally announced the new release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will be coming to theaters on June 4, 2027, after originally being set to release on March 29, 2024.

"You could wear the mask. If you didn't know that before, I hope you do now." These were the impactful words with which Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse concluded, leaving the sequel of the saga on a temporary cliffhanger. In this scene, the Miles Morales we know as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is kidnapped by… himself? To the audience’s surprise, the Miles Morales from the Earth where the radioactive spider originally came from is actually the Prowler, the new antagonist introduced for the third and final installment of the saga.

For Phil Lord, producer of the upcoming film, fans should set high expectations for the third installment of the trilogy.

“It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy,” he said at Sony’s 2025 CinemaCon panel.

With this promise, fans of the iconic superhero seem to welcome the news with open arms. Comments like “I’m so ready!” and “Let’s goooo!!!” flood the official franchise Instagram post, while mentions of disappointment such as “2027. Are we fr?” and “At this point just keep the movie to yourself” are also present. Fans are both exasperated and excited, and the range of reactions to the new art and sneak peeks is justified — such a long wait has undeniably left a bittersweet taste.

Despite the challenges the production has faced, the fan base has remained loyal, keeping a close eye out for new clues about what might unfold as they wait for summer 2027. It seems we will once again be immersed in a refreshing animation style, discovering the backstories of new characters and diving deeper into the very controversial dilemma posed in the previous film: How much are you willing to sacrifice for the safety of the ones you love?

As Peter B. Parker once said, "That's all it takes, a leap of faith," but will the fans take this leap while Miles continues his journey to discover what it really means to be Spider-Man, or will they lose faith in a hero still figuring out how to save everyone — including himself?
