Democrat Angela Alsobrooks leads Republican Larry Hogan by 14 points among likely Maryland voters in the U.S. Senate race, according to a poll released on Wednesday.
“Alsobrooks holds a commanding 27-point lead among Maryland female voters, an increase from her 18-point lead among women last month, while Hogan only has a one-point edge among male voters,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, in a press release.
Alsobrooks’ support improved by 5 points, while the former governor’s support fell by 2 points since September’s polling, reported an Emerson College Polling/DC News Now/The Hill poll.
The new poll determined that Alsobrooks had 53.9% support, while Hogan had 39.9%. Undecided likely voters compromised 6.2% of the data.
The economy polled as the top issue for likely voters in Maryland, the survey reported. Housing affordability, crime and threats to democracy were the next biggest issues for voters.
If she wins the race, Alsobrooks would be Maryland’s first Black U.S. senator.
In the presidential race, Democrat Kamala Harris polled 29.5 points higher than Republican Donald Trump among likely Maryland voters, the poll reported.
“Maryland independent voters break for Harris over Trump, 51% to 42%,” Kimball said in the press release. “Harris holds a 16-point lead among male voters in Maryland, and a more notable 41-point lead among women.”
Alsobrooks’ and Harris’ leads are tightly secured, with it being well out of the poll’s reported margin of error of 3.2 percentage points.
The survey polled 865 likely voters between Oct. 19 to Oct. 21.
