On Oct. 17, 2024, my friends and I made our way down Route 1 to Riverdale Park to visit Taqueria Los Perez.  Located near DeMatha Catholic High School, Taqueria Los Perez is a hidden gem in Riverdale Park with some incredible Mexican food.

We took the Metrobus and Prince George’s County’s transit, TheBus, there and back. The trip only took 15 minutes. Now, I had been before, both with friends and family, and since the first time I ate there, I have been more than happy with my food and the service provided.

Taqueria Los Perez serves fantastic and authentic Mexican food, even offering breakfast such as huevos con chorizo or huevos rancheros, as they are open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. every night.

Seating is available both inside and outside—weather permitting. The restaurant constantly gets orders from DoorDash and Uber Eats or simply from families wanting to order carry-out.

You can always count on hearing the newest music from Peso Pluma or Fuerza Regida at Taqueria Los Perez, they are sure to mix in some Mexican favorites of our parents' time such as Los Tigres del Norte or Vicente Fernandez. Most of the clientele I observed seemed to be local families, many of whom are Hispanic. This restaurant is a fantastic place to familiarize yourself with the culture of the Hispanic community of Prince George’s County.

After speaking with the waitress who took our menu, she told us that the “Birria Pizza” has been one of the most successful dishes served at Taqueria Los Perez. The Birria Pizza is essentially a quesadilla made like a Birria taco and cut up in “slices” like a pizza. After ordering, my friends and I only waited 10 minutes for our food to come out, which was impressive considering how many carry-out orders they were making and the families dining in.

I ordered gorditas; one of my favorite Mexican dishes. The order came with three, so I got one made of chicken, carne asada, and one al pastor. My friends ordered chicken and carne asada street tacos, respectively. We all ordered Horchata to drink, which was very delicious.

Taqueria Los Perez also offers beverages such as agua de jamaica and tamarindo.

From the moment you walk in to the second you leave, the staff at Taqueria Los Perez are there to make sure you have the best experience possible. As soon as we walked in, we were offered menus and checked on at our table multiple times to see if they could get us anything and how the food was, which was always delicious.

I would definitely recommend that you check out Taqueria Los Perez if you like Mexican food and need some time away from campus!
